So Disappointed in Ask Sam Management
Posted: 29 Jan 2009 09:44 PM
I am working on a research project tonight. I have been asking you and your president for 6 months to please port some functionality of Surf Saver for us 6 million Firefox Users...just a simple right click to enable it or an icon in the bar.

I would LOVE to use surf saver to database my research...but for two years now you and the management have done nothing to see any business opportunity of having an additional 6 million potential site viewers.

Im doing research the dumb way...without the beautiful functionality of Surf Saver because the director of product development considers this a wish list item...and the newly seaqted president does not answer customer e-mails even though he solicits customer comments.

What is the problem with a SDK developer, or a FireFox programmer making up a simple linkage so FireFox users can use SurfSaver. The often touted application that takes a firefox URL and then opens up IE and then re-displays the page in IE so surf saver can then be invoked is a 3 step kloodge solution.

Im getting so disappointed in ask sams management not responding to, not seeing business opportunity in, and not listening to customers over a two year period that I am thinking of abandoning the company all together and giving poor reports to my associates based on my experience.

I think Im almost out of here...I am so wearied of trying to get through to the new product development manager... and president...asking them to consider doing something so simple and so opportunistic...it has really soured my expectations and good will toward their ability to respond to paying customers.

I would really like to catalogue and retieve my information...but for obvious security reasons in IE...IE is forbidden in my work environment.

What more can I say? Paul promised to show my threads to the president...I guess I am sadly OUT OF LUCK...

Anyone else know how to gather web research into a searchable database...pulling text snippets with associated images and compiling a searchable database...Right now WORD can copy/paste text and associated pictures of partially selected web pages...How 1980's is that??

Thanks.

Suzzie

Suzzie,

I'm sorry to hear about your frustration with SurfSaver. We are not ignoring user requests. A firefox version of SurfSaver has been on our list for quite some time. Unfortunately we have not yet been able to jusify the time to port SurfSaver over to the Firefox environment. I know it sounds like a simple change but the internal workings of SurfSaver were written specifically to save, tag and search pages in IE. The format of FireFox is quite different. Not to mention the functionality, user interface, etc.

I can assure you that we are looking into ways to create a version of SurfSaver for Firefox. At this time I do not have a projection for when that will occur.

Here I am again, I have another research project to do that would be perfect for surf saver...and what are we on now, maybe 3 years of asking ask sam management to port to firefox so i can use it in my work environment which prohibits IE.

Common you guys, what could be so hard and stressful to put in a right mouse click into Firefox.

Dont you have any clue that if you released a version for firefox that it would attract another 500,000 views on your web page, introduce thousands to other ask sam products, and raise your top line sales by having another marketable product to another 6 million user user base. Im imagining that you dont need the money or the extra customers enough to warrant a small upgrade.

I am totally sick of your company...and your shortsightedness to its users and your inability to think or look out of the box technologically and marketing wise. What would this be a three day project for two programmers to make a hook into firefox...its not like forefox doesnt already have over 5000 plugins. You have a SDK user base and so does Firefox .

I am solidly now forced to give a poor report about your company, its shortsighted management, and its inability to respond to user needs over a 3 year period on a change that would benefit millions. I cant believe I am writing this.

I hope hard times dont hit you down there...some companies do really enjoy taking in NEW MONEY from NEW customers, with New Products and some innovation.

I have NEVER recently experienced a company so stilted and so entrenched in ten year old customer service postures. Please feel free to delete this.... if you feel im unjust in my experience with your management. I dont mean to be negative...its just that i have so many uses for your product in another highly popular browser...that it just gets me so frustrated with your resistance and technical inability to do a simple port. Sorry for the rant...id love to use your product...but im a worthless representative customer of 6 million other users. I guess we Firefox users are not worth your effort...at least not any priority.

Bye. Im going to have to look to some other company that doesnt resist customers and technical innovation.

Here I am again...Still NO WAY to use Surfsaver with Firefox. (exccept that double hop thing where you have to switch over to IE which is forbidden in our enterprise because of security issues)

How long has it been since Ive been asking this company to do a right click even. I dont believe how blind and resistive this company is to user requests from years ago...month after month...after month...for several years now. They hate to do small coding jobs I guess. I use FireFox like millions of others do as well...but THERE IS NO WAY, NO WAY to use surfsaver with Firefox directly like in IE. Maybe an icon on the tool bar...how hard could that be? Right click and then do a save to surfsaver like in IE...how hard could that be?

Ive been asking management for about 2-3 years now and they keep telling me stories.

I thought after 6 months I would drop back again and see if anything has changed...the marketing and new products manager said he would but my request on their list!! I guess im a wishful person.

I wanted to use surfsaver again to save some web pages...this time at home...BUT NO. Ask Sam refuses to see my request, take my requests seriously, hire a coder for 3 days to to a simple icol or click.

Im gone again on this company and its marketing manager, new product manager, president and software designer...talked or wrote to all of them...NADA

BYE..I gotta get out of here...I feel like im back in the 1930's with technology innovation and customer satisfaction or even being aware that there are customers who might care and buy and recommend this product. I dont think I have ever experienced anything like this...look at how old my posts are.

Dear Suzzie, it's even worse. As of today there isn't a version 7 of SurfSaver for IE on the horizon that would work in conjunction with askSam v7.

Slowly, slowly, I think time is running out for that product.

Sadly so,

Felix

Sadly I agree with Felix
AskSam has no further interest in surfsaver.
I suggest we all find alternatives
