Word or phrase not high lighted in AskSam v7 141 Posted: 07 Jun 2009 01:46 PM |
I have a 100MB data base in AskSam V7 141 and it will not high light the word or phrase no matter what color you choose in Properties.
I also have Asksam 7 Viewer and it will high light words in the same database. The database is a collection of sermon notes and is not being added to, so is static. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Been a long time user of AskSam and just recently upgraded, I still have V.6 of AskSam and do not have this problem. I am really trying to like V.7 but............. |

rterry,
See Comments and Recommendations under "Bug Reports" - "Search Term or Phrase "Hits" not highlighted."

| Thanks for the help Guido. Your suggestions worked, but I noticed this has been an issue since March 2009! |

Well, yeah. I don't exactly notice a torrent of support nor development activity here whatsoever. There were a couple of guys a month or two ago who posted about "last one here turn off the lights", and increasingly I'm wondering if I should be turning out the lights or leave it to you.
Is the technology being eclipsed by more modern SQL products, or free google and MS desktop search advances? Are more slick "PIMs", searchable and indexable, stealing asksam's thunder? What's causing hardly anything but cricket sounds from being present here?
Maybe the economy hit these guys hard, I don't know, but it's like an abandoned building in here. Still standing, but not exactly the hub of society like it should be for a product this great. |

Where do I find the Bug Reports - "Search Term or Phrase "Hits" not highlighted". Since I have the same problem. In a larger document seach hits seem to be limited to max 100. If the search phrase is present more than 100 times in the document than the phrase is not highlighted anymore.

This link doesn't point to a Bug-report. And doesn"t solve the problem that in a document only 100 hits (max) are high lighted while there are more hits in the document visible,

No bug but a feature:
"The number of document hits in the search results have been limited to 100 to help speed up the gathering of search results."
Eric Sites, Chief Technology Officer (till 2004) on Listserv.

Ok, I already thought that this could be the case. Is there a way to change or work around this feature and augment the max number to be > 100 e.g. temporary for a specific search?

There's no way to change that functioning. The work-arounds I could figure out are...
1. to split the document into two or more documents so that there are no more than 100 hits in each section.
2. to start a Local Search (Ctrl+F) inside the selected document in order to find more than 100 hits inside of the active document.
3. to use the Show Command and to output n words on either side of word or phrase (with 'All occurrences' option).
